The Educator Equity team in the CPS Talent Office is focused on improving teacher recruitment and retention in Chicago Public Schools in low-income communities.
The Educator Equity team, launched in Fall 2016, has developed the “Opportunity Schools” initiative, which has resulted in the recruitment of 300+ teachers into 50 low-income schools among other notable achievements.
The Educator Equity Specialist will:
Recruit 200+ high-quality teachers into Chicago Public Schools in low-income communities during the school year
Assist the Educator Equity Manager in developing and implementing teacher retention strategies that reduce turnover in a cohort of schools by at least 33%
Build strong working partnerships with CPS school leaders to assist them with teacher acquisition and retention
Support the development and implementation of several Talent Office strategies that are designed to improve teacher recruitment and retention
Develop marketing campaign highlighting teaching positions in low-income communities
Represent CPS to critical external partners including prospective teachers, university partners, and others
Analyze data to assess the effectiveness of the Educator Equity team’s efforts
Work in close partnership with the Educator Equity Manager to develop strategies to ensure that low-income schools have access to high-quality teaching candidates
Other related duties as assigned
The Educator Equity Specialist will report directly to the Educator Equity Recruitment Manager and will work closely with the CPS Talent Acquisition team to fulfill the position’s goals.
In order to be successful and achieve the above responsibilities, the Educator Equity Specialist must possess the following qualifications:
Type of Education Required :
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required
Type of Experience and Number of Years :
At least 3 years of experience working in low-income or urban education
Prior teaching experience in a low-income community preferred
Prior experience recruiting teachers or prior experience working in an education management/policy/advocacy role desired
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
A deep belief in the power of public education and conviction that all students have the ability to succeed if they have access to great teaching
Proven deep and collaborative relationships with stakeholders
Strong business communication skills including speaking, writing, and active listening
Results-oriented; holds self accountable for setting ambitious goals and exceeding them
Enthusiasm for working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial setting
Self-motivation, dedication, and the drive to succeed
Residency Requirement:
As a condition of employment with the Chicago Public Schools (CPS), employees are required to live within the geographic boundaries of the City of Chicago within six months of their CPS hire date and must maintain residency throughout their employment with the district.
