AnthroMed Education is an Illinois based employer of Special Education professionals dedicated to those in Special Education who know how exciting and rewarding it is to help children achieve. Were conducting a search for a Charter School Social Worker to support students at the 5th-8th grade level. The position reports to the middle school Principal and will receive regular support and career guidance from the Director of Specialized Services. This school is dedicated to closing the achievement gap and building a better community by bettering schools and their students.
The position will start in January 6th, 2020. Were seeking a nurturing and supportive Social Worker who wants to be part of schools that is making a difference in low-income students lives. This School social worker must be able to work with students, families, and community agencies to promote the academic success for all students. This position will conduct screenings, assessments, and provides individual and group counseling. In addition to be a key member of the IEP (Individualized Education Plan (IEP) team, the School Social Worker will also develop relationships with other school staff and contribute in a meaningful way to creating a safe and effective learning environment at the school.
School Social Work Responsibilities
- Provide school-based individual and group counseling services to students with IEPs and counseling goals/needs
- Maintain documentation within compliance of the Charter Schools regulations and procedures
- Provide advocacy, child welfare, and case management services to students
- Assess, identify and provide clinical interventions to students with emotional, social, attendance and/or behavioral concerns within the general education population.
- Provide threat assessment and risk management crisis services. Collaborate with community-based agencies and provide referral services
- Participate in the development of school-wide prevention, initiatives and policies related to safety, violence prevention and positive culture, social/emotional health, and the welfare of students
- Facilitate staff trainings and professional development bringing knowledge of developmental social/emotional needs of students
- Perform consultations with classroom teachers and be a resource for school site personnel on mental health and social/emotional issues that may affect classroom performance
- Identify student needs and provide prevention and intervention for concerns such as substance use, gang affiliation, etc.
School Social Worker Qualifications
*Please note, candidates who do not possess their Masters in Social Work, Valid IL Type 73, and Illinois PEL will not be considered as they do not meet the required licensure required by the Illinois State Board of Education.
- Masters in Social Work (MSW) required
- Valid State Certification (IL Type 73) required
- Valid Illinois PEL (Professional Educator License) required
- Experience in the field of school social work with school-age children (K-12)
- Knowledge of special programs, school policies and procedures related to Special Education services
- Demonstrated commitment to students wellbeing and learning
- Ability to connect with people from diverse ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
